Competition Serlachius Museum, Finland

Assignment
International competition: new construction for the Serlachius Museum in Mänttä, Finland

Client
Gösta Serlachius-Kunststiftung

Specification
The city of Mänttä lies deep in the forests of western Finland. The Gösta Serlachius art foundation launched an open tender for applicants to combine the peninsula and the old manor of factory owner Gösta Serlachius with the adjacent island containing a sauna area and a new building extension to include an exhibition space, museum shop, café and auditorium.
Our concept of a bridge construction constitutes a respectful and expressive balancing act between the existing buildings and the sauna island. The building structure is a modern, torsade, timber frame construction.
Due to its exposed location, the Museum enjoys views of the unique landscape and emerges as an architectural attraction.
